TwinCAT 3 Speech enables the multilingual input and output of queries or information implemented in an industrially compatible way. This makes interaction with TwinCAT much more efficient and convenient – in the widest variety of applications across all industries, from mechanical engineering to building automation. The speech input is available as an offline function implemented via built-in functions of the Windows operating system, i.e. without Internet and cloud connection. The speech output of TwinCAT 3 Speech is available both as an offline and an online function. In the first case this is supported by the corresponding Windows functions and in the second case by the Polly text-to-speech service from Amazon. Realistic sounding speech output is synthesized with the aid of deep-learning technologies. Different voices are supported as well as caching of audio files generated online. Engineering is carried out via a TwinCAT 3 Speech configurator project, which takes place together with the other projects such as PLC programming in TwinCAT XAE Engineering. TwinCAT 3 Speech can be used for machine control either via a PLC library, but also via the TwinCAT HMI, whereby input and output take place directly via the HMI client and no programming takes place in the PLC.
